Éduc’alcool announces new additions to its board of directors: Sylvain Dupuis becomes chair
FAVORIBookmarkMontreal, May 30, 2023 — Éduc’alcool is pleased to announce the appointment of Sylvain Dupuis as chair of its board of directors as well as those of Marie-Pierre Dubé, Benoit Lavigne, and Maxine Tétreault-Robert as directors.
These appointments came into effect following the election during Éduc’alcool’s Annual General Meeting, held on May 24. Sylvain Dupuis succeeds Richard Gagnon, who sat on the organization’s board of directors for six years, including the last three years as chair.
Continuing to be an impactful reference for the drinking behaviours of Quebecers
A seasoned manager, Sylvain Dupuis has worked for 40 years with entrepreneurs, executives, students, and board members in public and private companies as well as non-profit organizations. A UQAM graduate in accounting sciences; member of the Quebec CPA Order and recently of the Institute of Corporate Directors, his expertise in governance is undeniable. “To sit on the board of directors of an independent organization whose mission is so important is a privilege and a source of great pride for me. I am very excited about the idea of continuing Éduc’alcool’s commitment to equipping Quebecers with pertinent information that can help them make informed choices about their drinking habits. Supported by people from the business world as well as those from academic and scientific circles, my desire is to ensure, particularly with regard to the evolution of science and society, that our awareness-raising efforts have concrete impacts on Quebecers with a view to encouraging responsible and conscious alcohol consumption.”
Three new members who are important assets to the organization
Marie-Pierre Dubé is a specialist in genetics and pharmacogenomics. She holds the Canada Research Chair in Precision Medicine Data Analysis and is a full professor in the departments of medicine and social and preventive medicine at the University of Montreal. Dubé’s contribution will be of great benefit thanks to her training and professional experience and her ability to popularize scientific information.
Benoit Lavigne, trained as a kinesiologist and is a father of three young adults. He has worked with large corporations to build health and wellness programs for over 10 years. Lavigne also has a strong background in sports, having been a professional athlete, coach, and manager. This experience gives him a deep understanding of the issues surrounding drinking and its effects.
Maxine Tétreault-Robert is a chartered accountant by profession with extensive experience in strategic management and an expertise in financial and administrative processes. Focused upon creating business relationships based on trust, honesty and respect, Tétreault-Robert places great importance on teamwork, which she considers the cornerstone of success.
This transition comes at a key moment as Éduc’alcool positions itself through a refocused approach. Its aim is to help the Quebec population, and especially young people, become aware of their relationship with alcohol, through an educational and caring perspective. “ I look forward to working more closely with Mr. Dupuis, and the three new members of our board of directors who will make great contributions thanks to their respective skills and visions. We are united in pursuing our mission and making a difference in the lives of thousands of people,” explains Geneviève Desautels, executive director of Éduc’alcool. “ I would like to underline the significant commitment of Richard Gagnon who, over the years, has mobilized the teams and partners on the numerous projects that were instrumental in ensuring Éduc’alcool remains a relevant organization that is based on science and represents a diversity of opinions.”
